Flash Note: Inakadate Village Rice Paddy Art

I felt so lucky to have witnessed this beautiful art made in the rice field during my visit here in Aomori. Started in 1993, Inakadate village has made this rice paddy art project an annual event to revitalize the community. The “tanbo” (Japanese word for rice paddy) art are created with different varieties of rice.

For this year, the rice fields are designed with the themes “Gone With The Wind” for the main site and “Star Wars” for the second site. It’s a good thing that they provide free shuttle rides between the two sites. There is an entrance fee though to enter the viewing platforms (200 yen for each site).
