Dragon and Tiger PagodasSometimes, tragedies remind us of good memories. I intended to write about my China trip since today is the Chinese New Year. However, the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Kaohsiung that toppled buildings and caused a number of dead and injured people has reminded me of my visit in that place.
The way to the Dragon and Tiger PagodasI did my Taiwan trip two years ago because of 2 major reasons, one is to visit my Taiwanese best friend and the other is to see the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. The rest of my trip were just added adventures.
The Dragon Pagoda is filled with dragons.
The Tiger Pagoda is filled with tigers.I first saw the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas in its miniature model at the Tobu World Square. So I told my Taiwanese friend that I want to visit this beautiful landmark in Kaohsiung.
Enter the dragon.
Exit the tiger. The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas is a temple located at the Lotus Lake in Zuoying District of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Consists of two 6-storey towers, one with a dragon entrance and the other with a tiger, it was said that it will bring good luck to visitors if they enter through the dragon’s mouth and exit out of the tiger’s mouth.
Cihji PalaceBaosheng Dadi is a Chinese god of medicine and is one of the patron deities of the Cihji Palace located in front of the pagodas. It was said that he ordered the construction of the pagodas in 1974 and eventually it was finished in 1976.
Paintings inside the pagoda.
Finches rest at the roof edges of the pagoda. The towers contain paintings depicting Ksitigarbha, the bodhisattva of hell-beings, as well as paintings of Confucius and the Jade Emperor’s palaces. The towers have a double spiral staircase separately used for ascending and descending of the visitors.

There are so many turtles at the lake. The Lotus Pond is an artificial lake opened in 1951. Along with the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, other religious landmarks can be seen in the lake such as the 5-mile Pavillion, the Spring and Autumn Pavillions. The small tortoise mountain is also visible from the lake.
