Japan is known for beautiful scenery and amazing technology. But it is also known for its Engrish, the wrong use of the English language in some East Asian countries. The term Engrish was coined for the Japanese people’s tendency of speaking the letter “R” instead of the letter “L”. However, Engrish goes beyond that. Poor translations of Japanese sentences and strange signages can be seen everywhere in Japan and are usually spread on the internet.
Funny are they on the internet but it’s even crazier when you saw these funny signs in person. So these are the signs that I encountered in my everyday living here in Obihiro.

1. Serial killer’s room
This sign is scary, haha! It’s like the cabinet where Christian Bale’s character in the film “American Psycho” hanged the murdered women. (I like that movie!) I haven’t entered this room in the building next to our laboratory, maybe there are actually dead bodies hanged on their heads inside. That’s my horrible imagination there, it must came from too much watching horror movies. Creepy, hahaha!

2. Where is Chaina?
I have seen this one eversince I came here more than 6 years ago. And until now, no one has the courage to correct the people working in the grocery just in front of my apartment. Where in the world do Chainise food comes from? Maybe from a chain restaurant, haha!

3. Eggs are welcome here.
This is really unforgivable. Being located in my University where there are Microbiology and Molecular Biology departments is quite strange. I think they just used the Google Translate here. Or maybe there are actual eggs being hatched inside this office, lol.
