Leaving Miyazaki

Miyazaki Airport Park

It was early morning when I left my hotel to catch my flight from Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport. Since we still had a little time, we went first to the airport’s viewing deck.

When we arrived, the viewing deck was still closed. What caught my attention as we waited in the lobby was the restroom. There were cute, small toilet bowls, sinks, and urinals made for kids.

After few minutes, the viewing deck opened. The viewing deck is called the Miyazaki Airport Park. A small airplane, Beechcraft C90A King Air JA8850, can be seen there. The aircraft belongs to the Civil Aviation College which is based in Miyazaki City. I was surprised that the college has three branches and one of them is in Obihiro.

Last November 2015, a 2½-minute YouTube video was launched. It showed the staff of the Miyazaki Airport dancing on the runway. They also danced on the airport’s viewing deck. The song in the video promotes Miyazaki prefecture as a sunny place in Japan. About 150 airport employees participated in the music video. This included workers for Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, and Solaseed Air. Students of the Civil Aviation College also participated. The video looks funny as not all of the people who joined have talents in dancing. It’s so obvious that they were forced to join the video.

While I was waiting for my flight, I enjoyed the Kitkat Amaou Strawberry Flavor of Kyushu.
