Hillbilly Burger Shop changed a lot since the last time I visited the place.

After a strenuous work to finalize the budget for our project, my supervisor treated me and our secretary for lunch. He suggested the nearby Hill Billy Burger Shop as he has never been there. It has already been more than two years since I last ate in that burger joint. It has changed a lot with the inclusion of a boutique called Oddball selling American styled clothes inside the shop. The restaurant has became smaller and looks more like a fast food place now than before.The name of this burger shop might be inspired by the Missouri restaurant with the same name. However, I just got confused why the theme of the shop is Hawaiian. With Hillbillies and Hawaii, I didn’t actually see the connection between the two.

Hillbilly is a word used for the people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas in the United States. They are usually portrayed in popular media as the stereotyped good natured people who have simple lives and unadjusted with the modern world. The shop might be named as such because of the old-fashioned burger it is serving. The word hillbilly was coined from Billy being a nickname for William, a small town person and thus, the term just literally means Billy from the hills. In no way that hillbillies are associated with Hawaii. But if I am wrong and there are actually hillbillies in Hawaii, then just correct me from my ignorance.

All of us ordered the shop’s signature hillbilly burger which is consists of hamburger buns with chopped onions and celery, a slice of tomato and a pork patty in barbeque sauce and melted cheddar cheese. What I like about their burgers are the juiciness of the meat unlike the ones being served in the more famous burger joint here. More important than the the irrational Hawaiian theme of the shop is the highly recommended delicious taste of the burger that Hill Billy is offering.

I will visit Hillbilly again sometime soon.
