Sta. Rita de Cascia Church of Quezon City

Sta. Rita de Cascia church

The gated subdivision of Philam Homes, situated along West Avenue in Quezon City, was established in 1955. Initially lacking its own parish, the sparsely-populated fledgling community held its first mass on a vacant lot at 26 East Maya Drive under a mango tree on May 15, 1955.

Thanks to the relentless dedication of the residents and the backing of His Eminence Rufino Cardinal Santos, the Archbishop of Manila at the time, the construction of Philam’s own church commenced in January 1956. The church was built on a 2,000-square meter plot of land generously donated by Philamlife Insurance Company, the developer of the subdivision. Designed by Arturo Mañalac, a highly esteemed architect known for expertly blending traditional and modern styles in his church designs, the church embodied a harmonious mixture of architectural elements.
