Situated in Sitio Old Boso-Boso, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo, Rizal, the Nuestra Señora de la Annunciata Parish Church, also known as Bosoboso Church, stands as an old place of worship. For some time now, we have been making arrangements to visit this church, and at long last, we were able to attend a mass there.

Initially established as a mission church by the Franciscans in 1669, its primary purpose was to cater to the spiritual needs of the Dumagat people residing in the Lanatin and Linotan regions of present-day Rizal province’s mountainous areas. Subsequently, the Jesuits assumed control of the mission and the church in 1741. However, in 1768, when the Jesuits were expelled from the Philippines and other Spanish territories, the church was transferred to secular priests.

The church suffered considerable damage in 1880 due to an earthquake. Unfortunately, due to the declining population in the vicinity, the affected sections of the church were not reconstructed. In 1930, there were plans by the Americans to construct a dam nearby, which led to the relocation of the remaining residents to other areas. However, the dam project was eventually abandoned due to the discovery of a fault in the region. Nevertheless, people did not return to the area until the time of the Japanese Occupation. Unfortunately, during that period, the Japanese forces destroyed what little remained of the structure, leaving only the lower portion of the original facade standing.

Following the resettlement of the area, the administration of the parish came under the responsibility of the Camillian Order in 1986. Their involvement proved instrumental in coordinating the reconstruction efforts for the church. The restoration project, carried out with great care, reached its completion in 1995. During the restoration, the ruins of the façade were preserved, while the new sections were constructed to closely resemble the modest and unadorned architecture of the original church.
