The Pursuit for the Proboscis Monkey

The boatride along Brunei River

As part of our tour, we embarked on a boat ride along the Brunei River, commencing at the scenic Kampong Ayer, often referred to as the Venice of the East. However, our primary objective was to catch a glimpse of the endangered proboscis monkey.

Got a glimpse of the elusive proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus)

The proboscis monkey is native solely to the island of Borneo. These remarkable primates, characterized by their prominent pendulous noses and rounded bellies, are truly captivating as they move with grace through the trees lining the riverbanks. Despite being a bit distant, we were fortunate to observe several proboscis monkeys during our excursion.

While on the lookout for the proboscis monkey, we were treated to additional wildlife sightings amidst the unspoiled beauty of the Nipah Palm and Mangrove forests. Among these encounters, we observed a monitor lizard and even spotted a saltwater crocodile, adding to the richness of our experience in this pristine natural habitat.
