Victoria Peak

Peak Tram

Towering over the city’s skyline, Victoria Peak, or most commonly called The Peak, offers the best panoramic views of Hong Kong Island, Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, and even the distant green hills of the New Territories. It’s the classic postcard shot—but experiencing it in person is something else entirely.

View of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak

We decided to take the Peak Tram, the most iconic way to ascend Victoria Peak. The tram has been operating since 1888, and though it’s been modernized over the years, it still has that nostalgic charm. The ride is short but thrilling, especially as the tram climbs the steep incline at an almost surreal angle, making the skyscrapers appear to tilt sideways as you look out the window. It’s a unique experience that builds up the excitement before you even reach the top.

Many tourists at the Sky Terrace 428

Once we arrived at the Peak Tower, we took the escalators up to the Sky Terrace 428, the highest viewing platform on Hong Kong Island. Stepping out onto the open-air deck, we were greeted by that breathtaking, sweeping view—a 360-degree panorama of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. The towering glass and steel buildings of Central below, Victoria Harbour glistening in the sunlight, and Kowloon’s high-rises stretching into the distance. On a clear day, you can see as far as the mountains of Shenzhen.

There’s a Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum inside the Peak Galleria

After soaking in the view, we explored the Peak Galleria, which has a more relaxed vibe compared to the busy shopping malls downtown. There are souvenir shops, small cafés, and restaurants where you can enjoy a meal or coffee with a view. We opted for a lunch at Burger King before continuing our walk.
