Ten Years in Wanderland

I was with the young monks in Myanmar

Ten years ago, on August 13, 2015, while in Japan, I wrote what would become the first entry of Amoj In Wanderland, not with the intention of building a long-running blog, but simply to document a journey as it unfolded. What started as a personal record gradually became a habit of observing, understanding, and writing about places with context rather than just impressions. Over time, the blog grew into a steady archive of travels shaped by heritage sites, churches, landscapes, wildlife encounters, and everyday scenes that reveal the character of each destination.

My trip to the Great Wall of China was a dream come true

Across the years, the journeys expanded far beyond that first write-up. The blog has followed travels through the United States, Australia, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, France, Mongolia, China, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Taiwan, alongside many places across the Philippines. Japan, where it all began, remains a constant thread in these travels, from the northern landscapes of Hokkaido to the southern islands of Okinawa, each visit adding depth to the narrative. Along the way, visits to World Heritage Sites such as Angkor Wat, the City of Bern, the Historic Center of Mexico City, Ayutthaya, the Great Wall of China, and Ha Long Bay, among others, have added another layer of perspective by connecting each journey to broader historical and cultural narratives.

One of my favorite trips is in Mexico

A decade later, the blog remains consistent in its intent. It is less about marking milestones and more about sustaining the practice of documenting travel in a way that is grounded and reflective. What began in Japan continues today, shaped by journeys across continents but guided by the same purpose, to travel, observe, and write.
