It was already late afternoon, so there are many people jogging around the University of the Philippines Diliman sunken garden. ​But what amazes me is the beautiful sunset with pinkish sky shadowing the tall acacia trees.

The sculpture “Homeless Jesus” was unveiled today, Palm Sunday, at the Manila Cathedral. The artwork by Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz depicts Jesus, recognizable by the wounds on his feet, sleeping on a street bench wrapped in a blanket.

The official name of Manila Cathedral is Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Located at the historic walled city of Intramuros within today’s modern city of Manila, the cathedral was built in 1581 and has been rebuilt eight times. It serve as the episcopal see of the Archbishop of Manila, head of Archdiocese of Manila. The archdiocese encompasses the cities of Manila, Makati, San Juan, Mandaluyong and Pasay.

The Gundam Cafe in Akihabara is located just a few walk from the Electric Town exit of JR Akihabara Station. Outside, two Gundam robot models will welcome you for the unique dining experience. The interiors of the cafe is with relaxing futuristic ambience with Gundam-inspired decorations.The menu is also Gundam-inspired like the cup of coffee I ordered with the face of Gundam robot on the froth and the cheesy macaroni.

There are a number of owl cafes in Tokyo. And the most famous on the internet is the “Fukuro no Mise” which has many positive reviews. The name literally means “cafe of owls”. Located few blocks away from the Tsukishima station, its place is not that easy to find.

Birdwatching In Tokachi Part 1

We started our birdwatching at the Satsunai Garden Onsen. Near the entrance of the onsen is the Satsunai River where many ducks are just chilling out in the cold water. The sight of the birds with the foggy water just made it magical.

The Hyobaku Festival is an annual winter event which begun in 1976 and held from the late January to the end of March. It is held at the Sounkyo Onsen, Kamikawa Town covering a large area of about 10,000 square meter of the riverbanks of the Ishikari River.

Flashnote: Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival

Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival is a small ice festival held in Shikotsuko Onsen, Chitose City located south of Sapporo. The festival place is located near the Yamasen iron bridge. There’s an entrance fee-donation of 300 yen to enter the festival. The ice sculptures were made from the water of the Lake Shikotsu which is famous for being one of the clearest water in Japan.

Last year’s Star Wars snow sculpture was awesome but this year’s Shingeki No Kyojin is also cool. The sculpture featured the gigantic man-eating humanoid together with Sapporo’s very own Akarenga (Former Hokkaido government building) and Sapporo Clock Tower.

It’s winter and it’s a nice time to walk along frozen lakes. One of the lakes here in Hokkaido that you can traverse by foot is the Nukabira Lake. Most of the people who go to the lake camp there to do some ice fishing. But today, we went there not to do ice fishing but to see the Taushubetsu Bridge.
