The National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is a church and national shrine under the Diocese of Malolos. It serves as the Philippine apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima, whose devotion originated in Fátima, Portugal and is formally recognized by the Catholic Church in the Philippines.

Our Lady of the Abandoned Church in Marikina

The Our Lady of the Abandoned Church, completed in 1572, is the seat of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, the Patron Saint of Marikina. The church is constructed in Baroque style characterized by a heavily fortified facade, large-scale ceiling paintings, a round pediment for the bell-tower and the lavish blending of painting and architecture.

The church has historical importance as it served as the British military headquarters during the brief British occupation of Manila in 1762 to 1764. The British used the church’s belfry as a watchtower against the Spanish defenders. The parish was elevated into a cathedral in 2003.

The church was built in celebration of the 100th death year celebration of St. Maria Goretti, the patron saint of chastity, rape victims, girls, youth, teenage girls, poverty, purity, and forgiveness.

The Holy Relic of St. John Baptist De La Salle

It was the first-class relic from the right arm bone of Saint John Baptist De La Salle, founder of the De La Salle Brothers. He founded the Institute of Brothers of the Christian Schools and opened the doors of teaching for lay persons as he pioneered teacher-trainings for non-clergymen. He was canonized in 1900, and was later on declared as the Patron Saint of Christian teachers in 1950.

Starry Starry Night: Van Gogh Alive in Manila

An Australian company, Grande Exhibitions, has paid a tribute to the painter Vincent van Gogh by creating Van Gogh Alive, a multi-sensory exhibit on his life and works. The exhibit ran in Manila from October 26 to December 8 at One Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The exhibit wants us to interpret the thoughts, feelings and mental state of van Gogh during his time in his homeland Netherlands, Paris, Arles, Saint Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise, the locations where he created many of his timeless masterpieces.

San Agustin Museum together with the different Marian shrines and parishes in the Philippines have brought up a Marian exhibit called “Regina Caeli”. The exhibit showcased 30 of these pontifically crowned Marian images in the Philippines, aiming to show that the country is “Pueblo Amante de Maria” or a people in love with Mary.
