Liliw Church

Liliw Church, established in 1605 by Father Miguel de San Lucas, initially constructed from wood, was later rebuilt with rocks from 1643 to 1646. Partially damaged by a severe earthquake in 1880, it was reconstructed once more in 1885.

The Paintings of Jose Luciano Dans at the Paete Church

Inside the Paete Church were four 200-year old paintings made by a Paeteño artist, Jose Luciano Dans. He was commisioned by the Spanish friars to made these murals. Nothing is much known about Jose Luciano Dans except that he was born in 1805.

Visita Iglesia 2024

This year, we have decided to visit 7 churches in Laguna for our yearly practice of Visita Iglesia during Holy Week. It was my second time doing it there; the first time was in 2018. Laguna is home to the old and beautiful churches under the Diocese of San Pablo.

Minor Basilica of St. Martin of Tours in Taal, Batangas

Basilica de San Martin de Tours, commonly referred to as Taal Basilica, is renowned as the largest church in Asia. Originally built in 1755, it succumbed to a devastating earthquake in 1852. However, the current structure was inaugurated in 1865 and finalized in 1878, featuring an impressive 79-foot altar. This colossal church spans 96 meters in length, 45 meters in width, and stands an impressive 96 meters tall.

Binangonan Church

The Santa Ursula Parish Church, commonly known as Binangonan Church, stands at the center of Binangonan, Rizal, and has a rich history spanning 224 years. This historic church is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Antipolo and holds the distinction of being one of the seven Jubilee churches within the diocese.

The Historical Barasoain Church

On September 15, 1898, the Malolos Congress, which served as the nation’s inaugural constitutional assembly, convened within the confines of the Barasoain church. In this momentous assembly, the initial Philippine Constitution was officially endorsed, signifying a pivotal stride toward achieving independence. As the first Constitution across the entirety of Asia, the church earned the moniker “Cradle of Democracy in the East.”

Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Antipolo, Rizal

The Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Antipolo, Rizal is fairly recent, having been constructed in 2011. It is devoted to St. Therese of Lisieux, who is also recognized as St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. St. Therese, a French Carmelite nun who lived from 1873 to 1897, is celebrated for her “Little Way” spirituality, which highlights the significance of simple acts of love and devotion as a means to achieve holiness.

Jakarta Cathedral

The Jakarta Cathedral, officially known as Gereja Santa Maria Pelindung Diangkat ke Surga, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its name translates to the Church of Our Lady of Assumption. The cathedral was consecrated in 1901 after being reconstructed on the same spot where the previous cathedral, built in 1829, had collapsed in 1890. The decision to rebuild on the same site was made by the prefecture, and they entrusted the design of the new church to Antonius Dijkman, a Jesuit priest.

Gereja Katholik Santa Maria of Palu, Central Sulawesi

On this particular Sunday in Palu, we find ourselves without any activities to engage in. Our mobility has been hindered due to the absence of internet connectivity beyond our hotel. Despite this, I still have searched for a nearby Catholic church. After conducting a search, I came across the Gereja Katholik Santa Maria or St. Mary’s Church.

St. Peregrine Laziosi Church of Muntinlupa

We visited the St. Peregrine Laziosi Parish and Diocesan Shrine located in Tunasan, Muntinlupa, with the purpose of participating in a healing mass. St. Peregrine Laziosi is recognized as the patron saint specifically for individuals who are afflicted with cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses.
