It was my first time to witness a ceremony on receiving a holy relic by a church. It was the Cathedral Parish of St. Andrew in Parañaque that received the holy relic of St. Andrew from the Chapel of Holy Relics, Cebu.

Parañaque Cathedral is known as the Diocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso – Saint Andrew Cathedral Parish. Having built in 1580 by the Spanish Augustinians, it was one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. At present, it is the seat of the Diocese of Parañaque including the adjacent cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa.

The celebration of the reception of the Holy Relics from the bone and cross of St. Andrew were attended by the priests from the Diocese of Parañaque. During the ceremony, the relics were encased in a golden cross.

Being the new rightful custodian of the Holy Relics of St. Andrew, the parishioners of the cathedral will draw inspiration for their devotion from the life of St. Andrew.
